Spring Giveaway

Spring has sprung (despite today's cold rainy weather). There's no better season to enjoy the wonders of the earth as new plants sprout up through last fall's unraked leaves. Using cloth diapers is one of the many ways that we can help our planet. Growing food at home is another.

This spring, as I watch the tomatoes, peppers and herbs that my daughter and I planted together it makes me marvel at how much changes in a year. Last year my seedlings were toys that she took out on the front porch so she could play with the dirt. This year, at 2-1/2, I watch her touch her plants tenderly, water them, and blow on them to make them strong. She has stopped asking whether we can eat them yet, but I have hope that this year the seedlings may live long enough to produce fruit.

Planting seeds is an annual tradition in our household as we emerge for winter and prepare to welcome spring. How do you welcome spring?

Bums Away is giving away one Pomegranate Easy Fit diaper (http://www.bumsawaydiapers.com/products/details.php?p=283). To enter, post a comment about how you welcome spring to your home. One winner will be randomly selected from all entries.

  1. I start hanging the laundry on the line to dry as early as possible giving the neighbours something to talk about.
"That'll never dry today!" they say. But it always does. So long as it's not raining and it's above zero, our clothes are out to dry. Not only do I love the savings on electricity but there's something really satisfying about hanging laundry for the neighbours to see. I almost make an art project out of it trying to find colours that match to hang next to each other. Laundry blowing in the breeze is a truly beautiful sight to see.

  2. I mentioned the contest to Rob and he asked me to add his favourite spring ritual. He loves the melt on those first warm days in March. We take the dog out walking down the skidoo trail nearby and Rob likes to build miniature dams to re-route the runoff in the path to the ditches beside. He can get pretty creative about it too using sticks, rocks or just plain dirt. Our resident family beaver.

  3. My favorite thing about spring is the arrival of all of the birds, leaves, plants and especially my tulips in the garden. I also love to get out and enjoy the warmer weather. Spring truly brings my spirits up!

  4. This is Miles' first spring. I was outside showing him the buds on our lilac bushes and got to wondering if he'll remember the leaves from last summer. How much do babies remember at this age? Does he remember that the first thing he reached up to bat at were the leaves on our "snowball bush" while his doggie licked that little reaching hand? I like to hope so but probably not. Oh well. I've got the photos to prove it!

  5. This is Milo's first spring, so we spend a lot of time standing on the bathroom counter looking at the blue sky, the birds, the fluffy clouds, the people on the street, the trees, anything that makes him want to screech and point.

We have spent a lot of time playing in our new wagon, which feels so wonderfully like spring, and taught him how to climb in and out of it. We bought him a rainsuit and have encouraged him to crawl in the wet grass and the mud, which he's still not sure of... We have cleaned out all of the flower beds and he "helped", stealing all of the small tools anytime we turned our backs.

    It's awesome though - it's spring and I can't complain!!

  8. I stumbled onto your site yesterday and was so excited to see I now have somewhere in Brockville to buy my cloth diaper supplies!

One of the ways I welcome spring into my house is by opening all the windows - I LOVE the sounds and smells of a warm spring day coming into the house, I also love breaking out the flip flops too!

It is always a nice feeling as well to get outside, clean up after the winter and have a fresh start on the gardening!

I "Liked" the FB page and Twittered you before I even realized the contest!
